About
Overture Maps is an open geodata project run by the Overture Maps Foundation, a Linux Foundation initiative that publishes conflated global map data across six themes: addresses, base, buildings, divisions, places, and transportation. Data ships as hive-partitioned, cloud-native GeoParquet on Amazon S3 and Azure Blob Storage with monthly releases, so queries read only the slices they need instead of downloading whole extracts. The foundation also publishes a Python CLI for downloading and bundling data, tooling for generating PMTiles, and GERS, a global entity reference system that assigns stable IDs so the same real-world feature can be joined across datasets. It is intended to complement OpenStreetMap, and themes derived from OSM are released under the ODbL while other data follows CDLA-Permissive-2.0.
