About GisForWeb
Your curated directory of GIS tools, libraries, and platforms for building location-aware web applications.
Our Mission
GisForWeb was created to help developers, GIS professionals, and teams discover the right tools for their geospatial projects. Whether you're building an interactive map, processing satellite imagery, or creating a location-based service, finding the right tool can be overwhelming. We've curated and organized the best GIS tools to make your search easier.
What We Cover
Our directory includes a wide range of geospatial tools and technologies:
- Interactive mapping libraries
- Spatial databases and storage
- Data processing and ETL tools
- Geocoding and routing services
- Vector and raster tile servers
- Visualization and analysis tools
- Satellite imagery platforms
- Desktop and CLI applications
Open Source Focus
We have a strong focus on open source tools. For each open source project, we track GitHub stars and recent commit activity to help you gauge the health and popularity of each project. We believe in the power of open source software to democratize access to geospatial technology.
How to read the directory
Tool profiles summarize project capabilities, licensing and hosting options. Follow the website, documentation and repository links on each profile to verify details for the version you plan to use. A listing is not a certification or a hands-on performance benchmark.
GitHub stars and commit activity are refreshed automatically where available. They describe repository activity, not the date a profile was reviewed or a guarantee of support. Trending combines star counts with commit recency; it is not a quality ranking.
Alternatives may replace a specific capability rather than a whole platform. Developer guides link to their sources and show when the content was updated. Comparisons should be validated against your own data and requirements.
